Paradou restaurant is a little slice of Provencal paradise with an authentic Gallic heart set in the throbbingly trendy Meatpacking district. The bijou front room is kitted out in tables made from French wine crates, a type of peasant-chic that takes passion to carry off, and it works just fine. The real surprise is the heavenly garden at the back, canvas-walled in winter, open and breezy in summer. The menu features things that go amazingly well with the all-French wine list, like plates of charcuterie, and starter of foie gras en torchon with pistachio and tangerine zest, main course of Paradou’s own cassoulet, and dessert of caramelized apple and calvados crepe. Speaking of the wine list, it features both well-known bottles and rarer imports like smoky red Sancerre that usually don’t travel beyond the Continent. Finish with one of the Paradou-only French chocolates – another little slice of paradise for your tongue. Groups can reserve Paradou’s garden for themselves, a bucolic treat.Booking Tip: Please try to make your New York booking at least 48 hours in advance.
