Le Why-Not restaurant in Vieux Lille is a real find, an historic spot that’s dead hip with superb food and a cool ambience. Come downstairs and you’ll find yourself in a series of red brick arched vaults with sleek modern décor and a changing array of contemporary art. Very romantic. Chef Jean Christophe, formerly inmate of some of the most prestigious kitchens in France like Le Crillon and the Tour D'Argent in Paris and chez Marc Meneau in Burgundy, is the chef-patron. He produces a market-sensitive menu that encompasses both traditional regional cuisine and exciting riffs of his own. Try feuillete of white asparagus with infusion of light chive crème, slow-braised lamb shoulder casserole with fine tart of veg and rosemary jus, carpaccio of pineapple with saffron and home made coconut ice cream. Groups are very welcome at Le Why-Not and the staff will assist you in creating the perfect group meal or event.
