Om La Tortue du Sablon
La Tortue du Sablon restaurant is a famous homarium, or lobster house, right in the heart of Brussels. A nautical theme prevails, and quite right too, with scrubbed wooden floors, the remains of huge shelled creatures on the walls, and a ship’s wheel hanging from the ceiling. Inside you’ll find an intimate, smart, white-table-cloth setting while the terrace in front has a jauntier, more informal feel. Wherever you sit, you can choose from nine different preparations of lobster including La Tortue’s own grilled version and a warm edition Parisian Bellevue style. Fish dishes in general are a speciality, though meat-eaters are catered for, and, unusually, La Tortue has a strong tradition of game in season, with creations like six-spice duck with ginger sauce. Special groups up to 40 are made very welcome here. French wine list.

The best thing about the evening was being able to dine al fresco, that is until the neighbouring restaurant decided it was a good time to take the rubbish out. Hmmm... personally I think the food is over-rated, the lobster (a la maison) was not the best I've had. They could have also come more often to fill up the glasses with the wine included in the menu. We've only had one glass per course. So altogether, not a good value for money.

A day trip to Brussels for business so tried out La Tortue de Sablon. Only had time for a main course but the Bouillebaise was spectacular. The restaurant had a really good feel to it.Recension
La Tortue du Sablon is a lovely restaurant and I would highly recommend it to those visiting Brussels. It is fairly small and has an intimate ambiance, ideal for a romantic meal or for a night out with a small group of friends. If you like seafood the menu is fantastic. The staff were friendly and the service could not be faultered. My partner and I had a fantastic evening here on our first night in Brussels and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
