Surely the most authentic French Brasserie atmosphere in Kingston, Frere Jacques is a staunchly independent, non-chain restaurant that scores high for both quality, thanks to the charisma and experience of executive chef Gerhard Peleschka and his team, and also value, owing to the restaurant’s close links to local small businesses. Such ties ensure Frere Jacques’ prices will bring as much of a smile to your face as their razor clams, pan fried fois gras or salmon, freshly smoked on the premises. The amiable, predominantly French staff (in order to give you a truly contintental dining experience) will also happily inform your choices from the restaurant’s top quality wine list – even in English, we assume, if you ask nicely.

Frere Jacques is in a good setting right by the river - atmosphere OK but furnishings look a bit tired (maybe shabby chic?). Food good but not exceptional, staff friendly and TT deal made it better. Would probably go again for casual not special night out. AP

From 'greet to seat' the service was friendly. Complimentary glass of champagne each as we couldn't use the Toptable deal being Sat. Food very good, escargots a little small but tasty, monkfish and pear tart lovely. Partner's prawns good but belly pork only OK, nice crispy crackling . Tarte tatin burnt, but exchanged promptly. Didn't skimp on the glass of Amaretto. Service excellent, a great buzzy not too noisy ambience. Will go again and try the menu rapide/fixe prix for value or Toptable deal!Recension
Frere Jacques on a cool and wet April evening offered us a good brasserie experience. The fish cake starters were a little dry but had a nice sauce, and the steaks were tender, tasty and cooked exactly as we asked. The service was a little over-attentive. Before the restaurant filled up, we were approached and checked on by five different (but very friendly and obliging) staff members. The restaurant had a pleasant buzz when it filled up. Overall a decent meal at a fair price in a nice place.Besökare
