The Blackfriars Restaurant was very nice inside and the staff were very helpful and attentive. The salmon starter was just ok, but the main courses of steak and lamb were excellent.

Blackfriars Restaurant was a very enjoyable experience. The menu provides a vaired choice of dishes, my fiance enjoyed the mussels and the portion was very generous, whilst i found that the venison in chocolate sauce was excellent.

The food was great especially the duck at Blackfriars but i was very dissapointed with the dessert, the Eton Mess was served in what looked more like a coffee cup.

Blackfriars was a bit of a mixed performance overall with service being sketchy. A warm welcome though we had to ask for water twice, and we ordered cheese to share, and despite receiving the cheese to share on 1 plate were charged for 2 cheese courses, and were brought and charged for port without asking for this. On the flip side complimentary Hor D'oeuvres of salmon were nice & my steak was excellent as was the french sauvignon blanc. Fairly pricey evening overall though would return.

Blackfriars restaurant is one of the best "foodie" places I have been to. All the food is locally sourced so much so that the sardines I had were off the boat that morning.A mixed lunch time clientel suggests it is as popular with locals as it is with visitors to the north east.This place is a credit to the owners and staff as the care thay take to cook and serve is a joy to be part of even if just for a couple of hours.

Soup course for one of our party was of poor quality. When we pointed this out to the waiter the cost was taken off the bill.

Food was beautiful, We both had the sardines which were really fresh. The venue is stunning and the owners have made the most of it. Really likes the placemats which had hand drawn maps of local food producers and info about the restaurant and liked seeing fresh herbs growing in barrels outside. The service let the restaurant down, our plates were left on the table well after we finished.

Blackfriars specialise in locally sourced food so most of the menu is from the North East. The atmosphere is very informal with an ever changing menu means you will never get bored eating here. The staff are attentive and the somelier really knows his stuff. Would definitely come back here for sure

Very good service and good food, although slightly expensive. The restaurant was not full due to a large party of 30 cancelling that night.
