Excellent food but conservatory cool with inadequate heating. Evening somewhat impaired by intrusive and over noisy couple at next table who had both clearly had too much wine

The Black Door- a partners birthday - the food was beautiful. I did get a little confused, as we were told that the fois grois was off the menu, probably due to the recent bad press, we ordered our food and included in this, ducks liver on a bed of puy lentils ...however when the maitre dee brought us our food, it was identified by calling it fois grois. I was a little confused, it tasted beautiful... but I guess, this is a difficult issue for a french resteraunt - unforced on us unlike Jemima.

Yes the prices on the Black Door's menu may cause a sharp intake of breath if like me you're not reconciled to London prices. However, the flavours will cause an even sharper intake of breath for all the right reasons. That, a bottle of wine and the charming, attentive service will ease your credit card's pain.

Great food and service - although it is rather expensive for Newcastle and was quiet out of the way. Although I would highlighly recommend this restaurant.

We had lunch on Thursday at The Black Door Restaurant after hearing good reports from the manager of another good Newcastle Restaurant - and he was right! The service was unobtrusively efficient, with the food beautifully cooked and presented. Toilet facilities, which are down some stairs, are clean but a little cramped. Our only 'complaint' was that one starter was not served as described on the menu, and the only other customers were businessmen. Our next visit will be soon, but for dinner.

The Black Door is a smart restaurant in an imposing terrace in a busy part of town. One enters a very stylish but comfortable bar area, comfortable that is except for the oddly shaped bar stools, where the restaurant's attentive service is immediately apparent; service which throughout manages to be "proper" yet relaxed; a good trick to pull off indeed. The excellent food is designed for the gourmet rather than the gourmand and the outstanding quality is reflected fairly in the prices.

The mood was set as soon as we entered, as we were ushered to a seat in the bar area. We ordered drinks which promptly arrived along with some soaked olives and wonderful bites. We were given the menu which was not over elaborate and the selection was not too diverse. We ordered our meal along with a fantastic selection of wines. We were promptly guided to our table in the dining area which was very understated, cosy and a very good atmosphere. The food was to die for.

Had a first class meal at the Black Door restaurant in Newcastle. Despite there only being 8 people in the dining room, service was a little flakey at times, but overall still highly recommended.

The Black Door provided very good food served by excellent knowledgeable staff. The decor and ambience were spot on. Below stairs - the toilet areas have not been refurbished and must be - soon!
