Arisaig masterfully combines the sophistication of Glasgow’s business district with the prosaic essence of rural Scotland. Light pours into the high-ceilinged corner space from two sides. Well-spaced white-clothed tables sit surrounded by romantic Arisaig (the west coat village that inspired the restaurant’s name. And ethos) seascapes photographed by co-owner Stephen Bonomi, somewhat of a genius at reinventing food the Scots have taken for granted for decades. Dishes are divided into ‘sea’ and ‘land’. Fish lovers lick their lips over the likes of Shetland monkfish, Tayside salmon, Shuna mussels, and day-fresh Loch Etive oysters. Bestseller, haggis, is offered in a variety of enticing combinations, most notably the signature dish of haggis oatmeal fritters. Imaginative vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are there too. Perfecting the scene, proudly lining the long metallic bar, are over a hundred single malt whiskies.
