While not quite as handsome as its celebrity mythological name suggests, Adonis is an attractive café/restaurant popular among those who live and work around Goodge Street. Its earthy-coloured walls and traditional Arabic paintings are reminiscent of a Bedouin tent. Yet it’s substance not style that turns heads here. A lip-smacking Lebanese menu offers all the traditional favourites, from delicately textured traditional pastries to fresh falafel, mixed grills and lahem meshwi (marinated lamb cubes). Excitingly, there’s a growing range of fusion dishes – Mediterranean classics using Levantine ingredients – such as the kafta lamb burger (kafta being kebab meat). The Charlotte Street Club sandwich of five meze-filled pitta pockets sells especialy well. Check out the fruit and vegetable juices too; made on the spot and delicious. During warmer months, you can sit outside on the terrace.
