If, in the midst of the Old City, you fancy some Basque cuisine in an informal setting, the Sagardi ...Euskal Taberna is a fine choice. The decor is both modern and traditional, but then, that is surely the definition of Barcelona style, and its name translates as a place where cider is served. Set in a the lower level of a 16-century building (gothic painting was discovered on the walls) the popular bar area is typically Basque, serving the wine of the region. The focus of the dining room must surely be the three enormous barrels from which you drink as much cider as you like. Classic tapas are on offer, as well as homemade wild duck pate, fish and meat cooked on the open grill.
