Kresala restaurant in Barcelona is at the vanguard of gastronomy in this world capital of food. Kres...ala is Euskadi for ‘saltpeter’ – this incarnation certainly explodes onto the scene in inventive, contemporary style. It is reborn in the elegant space that was the Michelin-starred Jean-Luc Figueras and before that the atelier of the legendary Balenciaga. A million euros has been poured into creating a glamourous new restaurant, while cleverly keeping chef Manuel Jimenez in charge in the newly-designed kitchen and Thomas Rossini managing the quietly excellent front-of-house. Ingredients are of the highest quality and dishes, which change frequently to take advantage of peak freshness and flavour, include foie gras with paprika escabeche and thyme, intensely-flavoured fresh fish with a light broth of mussels and saffron, and dessert of tropical struden with exotic sauce and bitter chocolate. There are several tasting menus to choose from. The wine list reflects the strength of Spanish wine-making, matching the high gastronomy of the menu. And just so you know, the Michelin star is still shining.
