About The Old Masters
For a traditional, high-end London dining experience, The Old Masters is up there with the best. The Rubens at The Palace, the luxurious hotel it's part of, was built in 1912 as a hostel for debutantes coming out at Buckingham Palace down the road. The restaurant itself is set out like a traditional carvery grill with ornate high ceilings, chandeliers, the works. Fresh roasts are on the menu every day. Amongst the most famed dishes is the excellent Aberdeen Angus beef roast. Salads, fish and vegetarian dishes are also on the menu. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the breakfasts, we hear, are rather splendid. Live piano music most evenings. Good, welcoming service.

Two of us dined at The Old Masters carvery as a pre theatre treat. Service was excellent as was the food. Lovely quiet atmosphere after a hectic tube journey. Beware the drink menu is very expensive which I suppose is normal in hotel bars.Review
Boxing day lunch, great service from the moment you enter the hotel. The waiting staff were helpful and attentive. Unfortunately there was at most only two other tables occupied so the atmosphere lacked any festive spirit. Th starters were very good but the main course was marred by I think the lack of diners causing the vegetables to be left under the heaters for too long ending up with tough dry veg. But all in it was a pleasant lunchReview
Even at £30 for 3 courses we left feeling this kitsch hotel that is stiuck in the 1980's like we did not get value for money. Shame as the service was charming and good fun, however even the best efforts of the staff could not make up for the complete lack of atmosphere.Visitors
