About The Glasshouse at Eskmills

Musselburgh’s The Glasshouse at Eskmills is the Starck Louis Ghost Chair of the Scottish restaurant scene. It looks good, you’ve heard lots about it but at the same time you’re sort of worried you’re not cool enough for it. Converted from an old mill The Glasshouse is a juxtaposition of traditional building and contemporary interior. Spectacular lighting, see-through seating (ah-ha!) and glass, glass and more glass make this as much a restaurant to look at as to eat in. But rest assured the menu certainly doesn’t disappoint. Watch the chefs at work in the theatre kitchen as they work with locally grown, seasonal produce from small local suppliers to create spectacular dishes which come at surprisingly reasonable prices

Having the option of walking to the Glasshouse for a quality meal, rather than having to go into Edinburgh is fab. However, in order to get my partner back the kitchen will have to learn how to cook a fillet steak to medium (rather than the tough, well done steak he was presented with). I had no such issues with my meal and all three courses were beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. The service has improved greatly recently with no drinks spilled over us by clumsy staff this visit!

Pleasantly surprised after getting mixed reports about The Glasshouse at Eskmills. The food was superb as was the attention of the staff. It is very near to our home so we will be regular diners. Menu could possibly do with a more regular change, it appears to have been same one since it opened. Home made chips were fantastic.

The food was really very good but the steak served to me was only lukewarm and a trifle singed. However, the lowest point was the smoke from the open kitchen which stung our eyes and on a freezing cold night the solution was to open the doors. That meant that rather than have a sweet and coffee we decided to leave. Staff were very pleasant but I doubt if we will recommend The Glasshouse in Musselburgh
