About The Durham Ox
Nestled in the beautiful countryside just outside of York, The Durham Ox has been named one of the top country pubs in Britain by The Times. No surprise when you learn that this is a gastropub with the full package. Historic building? Check! This is a three hundred year old building. Surroundings to die for? Check! In the heart of Herriot Country the pub enjoys stunning views over the Vale of York. Friendly and comfortable? Of course…the dining room is sophisticated but cosy while the bar is a traditional country pub with all the trimmings. Great British Food? What else? The menu is packed with Yorkshire beef, local vegetables and British classics while the specials menu allows you to eat seasonally. Fantastic Sunday Lunch? Do you really need to ask…

The Durham Ox is a welcome escape from over-crowded York. The wine list was impressive with a knowledgeable head waiter. We had excellent carpaccio of beef and a chateaubriand which was cooked rare and to perfection. We would certainly return and have already recommended it to friends.

Had an excellent night at the Durham Ox, Yorkshire. Busy dining room - but this added to the atmosphere. The meal was spaced out excellently inbetween courses. Time to relax, enjoy the evening, and let each course settle inbetween. Never felt rushed or left unattended! The food was delicious, and taking into account that we ordered some of the most expensive items on the menu - the bill was very reasonable. Would deffinately reccomend, and WILL return.Review
Three of us ate at the Durham Ox on Mothering Sunday, and thoroughly enjoyed the occassion. The food is a bit pricey for a pub, but I think that you would really class this place as a rural restaurant, for which costs are fair. The Ox has a cosy and welcoming feel, and the staff were friendly without being in your face, and most importantly we all had three courses and tried each others dishes, and found everything to be delicious. We would highly recommend the Ox and will go again ourselves.Visitors
