About Crab and Winkle Restaurant
The Crab and Winkle restaurant in Whitstable is a light and lively place right above the fish market, with views out over the harbour and its bobbing fishing-boats. If you wanted fish any fresher, you’d have to get out there and catch it yourself. Carnivores and veggies are taken equally good care of with equally fresh, local goodies, but let’s concentrate on the fish for now. Start with beer-battered oysters (the tastiest thing to emerge from the sea since Daniel Craig in Casino Royale), then go for grilled gurnard fillets with new potatoes crushed with a mustard dressing, buttered savoy cabbage with bacon, and dill sour cream. Finish with quince, apple and raisin oat crumble and cinnamon ice-cream (after all, fish is very light). In summer, eat outside and harbour-watch.
Opening hours:
Mon - Sun: 11:30am – 9:30pm
This restaurant is built on the site of the oldest railway passenger service in the world.

Visited the Crab and Winkle on Wednesday 2nd January for lunch - credit to its popularity and reputation that it was pretty much full. Food excellent. A window table gave a good view of the harbour area. The service was a little disappointing - very slow between the starters and the main and the restaurant would have benefited from being a degree or two warmer.Review
The Crab and Winkle top marks, as i was travelling along the M2 on the way there it was quite foggy, and thought to myself what are you doing, but on arival we found the whole experience worth while, food and service this close to christmas made this meal the best yet.Review
The food at the Crab and Winkle resturant is always top quality. We ate from their special offer menu which maintained their high standards in taste and presentation whilst offering excellent value for money. Although the choice was limited there's something for everyone, this was my fifth visit and I'll definitely be back again soon.Visitors
