About The Bucklemaker
Tucked into a former Georgian silversmiths workshop, the Bucklemaker is a delightful restaurant that manages to be traditional, contemporary and welcoming all at once. The atmosphere is businessy at lunch, romantic in the evenings, with a friendly, buzzy bar area. There are seventeen wine cellars - you may take that as a challenge. Excellent for business for personal entertaining.
What's cooking?
For starters, try fresh oysters with raspberry shallot vinegar, lemon and Tabasco, or something more complex, like spinach, lobster and crab spring roll, with warm bean sprouts, soya coriander and sesame oil. For mains, we suggest the calves liver with sweet potato and red skin onion tartlet, piquant sauce and deep fried sage, or the Pitt and Swatkins pie, beef fillet, kidney, mushroom and ale. Puds are fine, and they pride themselves on their properly aged cheeses.
Opening hours:

We arrived early at the Bucklemaker, parked outside the front door, and were immediately offered drinks and menus while we waited for the table. My partner was very impressed by the pigeon starter and venison main while i thoroughly enjoyed the goat's cheese starter and salmon main. The veg that we ordered was also very tasty and the chocolate mousse dessert was divine. Service was outstanding and, although pricier than we normally go for, this meal was well worth it and recommended.Review
Lunch for two. One starter ordered; excellent pork belly. Fish, chips, mushy peas was a huge serving. Lovely batter. The chicken dish was ok but vegetables were great. Good, friendly service. Time from order to table was pretty quick, too.Review
The greatest challenge to a restaurant and a kitchen is to provide a well served and cooked dinner to two people when two office Christmas parties are under way! My pigeon starter and venison loin were cooked to perfection. My wife's scallops passed the test, of being well seared yet moist inside, with flying colours. The wine list was short but extensive. Perhaps the Ridge was a bit optimistically priced, but the advice given on the wine list was excellent. We'll eat there again. Great!Visitors
