About Tamarind

Tamarind, the Michelin starred restaurant in Mayfair, is one of London's most sophisticated Indian dining experiences. The chic, gold-accented dining room is elegant, yet comfortable and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Chef Alfred Prasad is renowned for his originality and his seasonal menus put a fabulous modern spin on traditional Southern and North-West Indian cuisine. House specialties include steamed king fish stir fried with mustard, lentils, turmeric and coconut; chicken in tomatoes, fenugreek, ginger and green chillies; and seekh kebabs cooked in the Tandoor. For dessert, don't miss the cardamom rice pudding. Staff are warm and professional and are happy to advise on the dishes & wines. I took my aunt here who is fighting cancer - she is pretty immobile and the staff were amazingly attentive and helpful. Everyone was very happy with the food - though the lamb was a little tough / dry. The garlic nan was delicicious. Service was close to perfect. Would recommend. Nice touch with chocolates at the end - especially mint leaves in chocolate

The Saturday after Christmas and the restaurant was packed ... A beautifully decorated dining room, with a low ceiling, but the acoustics were fine. Service was impecable, from the smile that greeted us as we went to the bar for an aperitif, to the swiftness of the bill arrriving when I asked for it. Food was superb, the Tandoori mushrooms and Seafood stew (featuring scallops, prawns and squid) were particularly good.
