About Shikara

Thumbs up all round for Shikara – modern, elegant design (leather sofas, wooden floor, white walls, clever lighting); wholesome, full-flavoured food; professional service, and all for reasonable prices. The menu concentrates on north India, the historical home of the Maharajas – a place you can taste in every wholesome dish, especially the earthy tandoors, and house specials like jheenga malai. Shikara's chefs understand how diet effects health – a knowledge reflected in the carefully-chosen herbs and spices - such as lemon leaf (boosts the immune system), and peppercorn (aid digestion) – integral to every dish. Another reason this South Ken Indian stands out from the crowd it allows diners to choose whether your food is cooked in ghee or olive oil. Good, knowledgeable service.

Overall Shikara is a little gem as it is a moderately priced menu with very unassuming staff who are friendly and couteous, this is the HEART of sounth kensington makes it a real diamond in the rough! service a bit slow last night but normally it's fine. Food is good - I recommend the Laal Maas, delicious!

The food was definitely the best part of the experience. The popadoms were warm and crisp and came with a good selection of sauces. The main meals were delicious. My chicken tikka was very succulent and cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back.

Small modern Indian restaurant, with slightly higher prices than your average Indian but with the 25% off deal was very good value for money. Food was good and in decent portions, my friend is a peshwari naan connoisseur and said it was definately one of the better ones he had tasted. Service was reasonably quick and non-intrusive. But the thing I did notice about the place was that the tables were not too close together, which I always find annoying at other restaurants.
