If, in the midst of the Old City, you fancy some Basque cuisine in an informal setting, the Sagardi Euskal Taberna is a fine choice. The decor is both modern and traditional, but then, that is surely the definition of Barcelona style, and its name translates as a place where cider is served. Set in a the lower level of a 16-century building (gothic painting was discovered on the walls) the popular bar area is typically Basque, serving the wine of the region. The focus of the dining room must surely be the three enormous barrels from which you drink as much cider as you like. Classic tapas are on offer, as well as homemade wild duck pate, fish and meat cooked on the open grill.

A credit card is required to secure a reservation for groups of 8 persons or more, if there is availability. A deposit of the full amount of the menu chosen per person will be charged to the card. Late cancellations (within 24 hours of the reservation) and no-shows will forfiet this deposit.
Upon arrival, please inform the restaurant that your booking was made via toptable.

This restaurant is amazing, it coped with 15 girls, 10 of whom were vegetarians! The meat eaters also had an absolute feast! The served the best steak I have had in ages as were the chocolate truffles.

We arrived at 20:30 which is early in Barcelona for dinner and hence the restaurant lacked a little ambience. The food and service were very good and it was significantly better than anywhere else we ate in 4 days in the city

Sagardi Euskal Taberna is most definitely a place of two halves, it has a frenetic tapas bar and then a sedate and stylish restaurant. It surprised us that the two weren't allowed to meet as we would have loved tapas to start before a more formal main course. As a vegetarian in the main restaurant I really struggled, even the side order of veg a friend had was peppered with ham! The rest of my party had amazing Turbot, Squid and Pork - all well received. Excellent Rioja and fab service.
