About Monteiths
This stunning addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene - centrally located in the city High Street minutes from Edinburgh castle on the Royal Mile - is renowned for its superb modern Scottish menu and chic décor. The stylish, kooky interior – featuring purple leather banquettes and candlelit bookshelves - has an authoritative eccentric-yet-traditional vibe. The bar is perfect for a pre/post dinner tipple, and popular dishes on the menu include the scallop ravioli with chilli gazpacho, and the smoked haddock with Stornoway black pudding, poached egg and crisp pancetta. We recommend finishing with the delicious cheese board served with apricot chutney and oatcakes.

loved the chocolate mousseReview
Monteith's is a relaxed and friendly place to impress a date; the décor is warm, intimate and comfortable and food is excellent (the beef wellington and apple crumble are recommended!). My only criticism is the seating - when making a reservation ask to be seated at a table instead of the sofas. It's nice to eat bar food or snacks whilst seated on a sofa but I don't think it's practical for a 3 course dinner with cutlery - I felt like a 4 year old who had just been allowed to the adult's table!Review
Monteith's is probably best described as a young persons' restaurant. The music was too loud but the food was better than I expected on entering the place, and discovering that it's more a bar than a restaurant. Overall, reasonable vfm.Visitors
