About Mezbaan - South Indian
On Edinburgh’s Tollcross, set in a traditional grey stone building, is Mezbaan, a popular South Indian restaurant drawing in both locals and visitors to the city alike. The approach, with burgundy awning and black and white tiled step, has a hint of Manhattan about it. The city slicker vibe continues inside with a well appointed dining room and extremely efficient service, however the food offers a rustic vibe, being the only place in Edinburgh to sample South Indian cuisine. Always popular is the street style food; masala dosas, idlis or the much talked about haggis pakoras, proving that it’s still possible to inject a touch of imagination in to Indian food.
Opening hours:
Mon - Sun 12pm - 2:30pm & 5pm - 11pm
This is one of only a handful of South Indian restaurants in Scotland and the only one in Edinburgh.

Had to book at six for offer but Mezbaan was empty Tuesday, few diners when we left. Masala Dosa and Idli were tasty and nicely presented, the Pakuras were good. Excellent Lamb Cafiel with generous Kashmiri rice, my friend had Kondu Masala (prawns) which he enjoyed and my vegetarian partner chickpeas. Great Okra Raita. No side vegetable dishes. Why not put some on the menu?Review
Went to Mezbaan restaurant on a hunch. I rarely have seen such friendly jet inobstrusive service in a restaurant. We had a lesson in pronounciation of the names of dishes, had advice and recommendations, all very much appreciated and enjoyed, as was the meal. The restaurant could possibly do with some refurbishment. Make it a must visit place at Tollcross!!Review
Good starter and very good service but i was disappointed by the main meal. Also, the restaurant was virtually empty when i arrived at 7.30pm so no ambience however this did pick up a little later.Visitors
