About Masa

Paula and Didar Dalkic’s gutsy conversion of a Wesleyan Chapel into a glamorous fine dining restaurant and wine bar needs to seen to be believed. The uplifting sense of bright space and calm remains, while much of the impressive original features have been gently restored. True vantage points, restaurant tables are boxed pews overlooking the bar. Great care has also gone into the menu, the evening a la carte typically serving beautiful plates of Derbyshire pork and caramelised apples, and roast salmon on a blanquette of coco beans, with a thyme veloute.

The restaurant is set in an old chapel which still has its original features of the pulpit and remeberance stones in the walls. The dining tables are situated upstairs and are tiered where the pews once were. This is very open space but cosy at the same time. Food was good quality and service friendly.

Stunning venue beautifully restored and converted by the passionate new owners. Derby really needs something of this calibre. Presentation of venue and cuisine and effort of both staff and management is exceptional. However, service that night very slow and meal dragged on a bit. But staff lovely. We did enjoy the meal, but being uber critical we felt it just stopped short of being 'excellent'. Simple and well executed menu - which is how it should be. Will definately dine again.

First visit to Masa was for a business lunch, the service was on the slow side for the occasion especially as the restaurant was empty. We all had beef tartare to start, main courses being cod, chicken & calves livers. The food was excellent. We would all return but at a busier time.
