About Livebait - SE1
Livebait has got just the right stuff to lure hungry diners into its bright, friendly restaurant. The atmosphere is brasserie-ish in the sense that it's informal and relaxed. This particular has the same high-quality super-fresh fish and shellfish that makes the food so memorable in other locations. The most popular dish is the Livebait Platter, a huge international grouping of Nova Scotia lobster, Dorset crab, Madagascan crevettes, Atlantic prawns and Indian Ocean crevettes that serves at least two people. Starters range from steamed mussels to fish soup with aioli to taramasalata, mains range from straightforward fish and chips to panfried seabass and fantail crevette linguini with chilli and ginger and baby spinach. If you can manage it, the blackberry and apple crumble with clotted cream is fab. Effective cocktails and nice wines - more than a dozen are available by the glass.
Please be aware that on Sundays the kitchen closes at 9pm
Opening hours:

Perfect as a pre-theatre venue - 3 course set menu fantastic value. Don't make the mistake I did of eating too much of the scrummy warm fresh bread and butter/salmon mousse...leave room for the classic fish and chips with beautifully fresh crisp batter and chips - Sarson's vinegar and Heinz tommy ketch just keeps it real! We had the added bonus of a sighting of Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum!! Given that The Old Vic is Spacey's life these days, I think his presence is a fine endorsement.Review
Very simple and very tasy food in a relaxed environment. Perfect for a pre-show meal which this was. Didn't have the time or appetite for a seafood platter, but they looked amazing. Only criticism would be the seating which for us was a high backed booth. The diners behind us having the same partition which the children with them kicked and wobbled continuoulsly.Review
We went to Livebait prior to the panto and the food and service were perfectly fine - nothing earth shattering but good food served by a chearful waitress who was managing to keep happy despite a number of customers all wanting to be out by 7pm. the only real complaint was that it was really cold in the restaurant and I had to keep my coat on. The constant opening of doors on a very cold night was not managed well.Visitors
