About L'Espérance
Nestled in the medieval village of Vézelay in Burgundy, acclaimed chef Marc Meneau's l'Esperance hotel and restaurant has long been on the hit-list for serious francophilic foodies. Meneau was the rock star of French cuisine in the 70s, and this exquisite two-Michelin-starred restaurant – set in a verdant conservatory overlooking vineyards and the topiaried, trout-ponded gardens filled with contemporary sculptures – has long been his labour of love. A true artist, Meneau has created the perfect pilgrimage for gourmands, and sample dishes include the lobster roasted in carrot and orange jus scented with ginger, and the Charlotte cake flavoured with apples and garnished with orange zest. The wine list, and the service, at l'Esperance are both superb.
