About Le Hochepot
Le Hochepot restaurant in the heart of Lille offers classic Flemish cooking allied with true originality, all in a warm and welcoming setting and at a friendly price. Le Hochepot, named for the traditional workingman’s meal of sundry meats stewed with seasonal veg, has the feel of an estaminet – the local, low-key version of bar/brasseries. With quarry-tiled floor, exposed brick, rustic seating, this is the perfect setting for authentic Flemish regional dishes like carbonnade flamande, or beef stewed in beer with onions and brown sugar, potjevleesch, or terrine of rabbit or chicken. Michel and Anne Jeandel keep the place full with excellent cooking and true friendliness. If you’re aiming for the authentic experience, the beverage is beer and Le Hochepot specializes in the beers of French Flanders. The dining room seats up to 60 for large parties, and the Jeandels will respect your budget in creating menus for your party.

I had visited L'Hochepot previously and was pleased to find it still in the same ownership, 8 years now. Despite being less than half full, some of the menu items were unavailable, but the food was very good. In particular, they serve the best Carbonnade Flammande I have ever tasted. This, and the large range of French beers, most sold in 75cl bottles, were my main reasons for visiting. But the relaxed atmosphere and uncrowded surroundings also make it a favourite.Review
Good wholesome local food, served with care and attention. The wines included in the tariff were basic but palatable. Above all the general service and assistance (with such a large party) were excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those wishing to sample local traditional dishes.Review
Service was very good & we never felt rushed. Three starters were unavailable which greatly reduced choices so we ordered a selection plate of terrine, cheese and bread which was very good. Generally the main courses were very good (though why we couldn;t have chips was a mystery). However one of our party ordered sirloin steak med rare which arrived well done and like shoe leather. They seemed surprised when we returned it but offered a replacement or alternative. Desserts were delicious.Visitors
