About La Becasse

Having gained a Michelin star at L'Ortolan near Reading, Alan Murchison has set up a second fine dining camp in medieval Ludlow, the foodie capital of rural Britain. La Bécasse already has regulars from among the country's discerning tribe of gastronomes, returning for Murchison's spectacular Modern French gourmand £55 tasting menu - capable, we hear, of inducing a state of bliss. At £20 for two courses the menu du jour is a marvellous budget option. It's a beautiful space too; a 17th-century coaching inn divided into four dining rooms, and a hidden courtyard for delightfully relaxed pre-meal drinks and conversation. A hit.

My wife and I had an excellent evening at La Bercasse on Easter Saturday. It started well - complementary glass of champagne as we had booked through Toptable. We both had the set Springtime menu, four courses and a glass of Pommery rose - £60. Very well presented and lovely flavours. Service was excellent - friendly and attentive. Wine list - high mark ups (which I expected) and several no longer available - but list is being reviewed. Overall a great night - but expect to pay £200 a couple.

Went for the festive lunch and we were greeted with a glass of spiced champagne, starters of ham hock and haddock chowder got us in the festive mood and the pheasant main was christmas on a plate. Xmas pud ice crean followed and the cheese was introduced on some kind of spectacular chariot! A fortified shiraz was expertly recomended to go with some very strong blue stuff. This place is absolutley fantastic, they are waiting to hear if they get their stars in January, they most certainly will.

Delightful food - a real feast for the senses. Ate from thh easter and gourmand tasting menus and each dish was thoughtful and executed with skill. Service was attentive without being obtrusive, a balance that is not always struck elsewhere!
