About King William

When the King William restaurant in Bath was converted from the knackered pub it used to be, it became it gastronomic hotspot for Bath-ites who adore the excellent food and relaxed setting. The ground floor is still a pub with the fine dining room upstairs, all now eclectically kitted out with in shades of mauve with antiques, chandeliers and daily blackboard specials. Seasonal, free-range, organic and local sum up the provenance perfectly, for dishes like fried squid with fennel, ruby chard and green sauce and main of fantastic braised lamb for two with herb broth, mash and local greens. Superb small-producer beers and ales and a blistering wine list crown King William a top restaurant in Bath.

Despite value for money, the King William let itself down with 'indifferent' service and a slightly odd menu system. To be fair there were only two people waiting at table and the place was full. Even one of the chefs was waiting on a couple of ocassions!! Management problem.... The set menu (2 courses £24, 3 courses £29) had in the mains section, two of the six choices for '2 sharing'. As a table of four, it meant that one of the three that wanted lamb had to try something else!!

King William, Bath. Excellent wine and service. Superb starters. Eclectic choice of mains, probably too posh for us, so a little disappointed with that aspect. Overall enjoyable but check the menu in advance.

We enjoyed our meal at the King William very much, the brawn with the bread was excellent- absolutely delicious. Would have liked more! Starters were simple but equally good. We had the wild duck for two, tender and cooked just as we asked. Veg accompainment very tasty. Desserts were rich but filling, however the Cheese portion was small but fig and pear compote very good. Will be back for another meal soon. Very reasonably priced and will recommend.
