About King Edward VII

Built in the early 19th century and one of the oldest buildings in the area, the King Eddie (as it’s affectionately known) looks like an old man’s boozer from the outside. But inside it’s comfy and has lots of period features, including wood paneling, church pew-style seating, fireplaces - all attracting a youngish crowd, especially on Thursdays; open mic night. The upstairs bar’s been converted into a rustic-style restaurant with old farmhouse tables gathered beneath a sky light. The food’s of the simple, seasonal ‘best of British’ sort, like grilled sea bass for two, wild rabbit, and honey roast pork belly. It’s good stuff. Great beer menu too. It changes, but you’ll usually find the likes of Timothy Taylor Landlord and Bombardier on draught.

Stratford seems like it's a bit out of the way, but isn't really, and the food at the King Edward was well worth the short trip. The staff are genuinely friendly, the service was spot-on. We couldn't fault the food; my guest was still talking about it two days later. The pub has beautiful original features and is welcoming and comfortable. We popped over to the Picturehouse (to see Hot Fuzz - which was rubbish) and made an evening of it. Will definitely be going back.
