About Gilby's
Gilby's, located close to Cardiff on the edge of the Vale of Glamorgan, is a charming restaurant set in a converted historical building surrounded by countryside that is picturesque all year round. Restaurateurs Michael Standerline and Xavier Le Bellego also run the successful Red House at Marsh Benham, and Forbury's in Reading. The menu features hearty British fare with a contemporary twist – we love the peppered honey glazed Gressingham duck breast with bubble & squeak, poached chestnuts, wild mushrooms and redcurrant sauce; the baked whole sea bass stuffed with citrus fruits and seasonal herbs; and the Gilby's special hot seafood platter for two with whole lobster, jumbo crevettes, oysters, scallops with foaming parsley butter, a bowl of moules mariniere and two glasses of champagne. Gilby's is ideal for small or large parties, romantic evening meals and business lunches.

Gilby's food was okay but soooo expensive £15 for a vegetarian pasta dish. Smiley service but they forgot our wine and salad and we were the only customers in the restaurant!!

I wanted to try somewhere new for lunch with my family. I usually try out a restaurant first, checking everything from the menu to disabled access. But Gilby's is a bit off the beaten track for a non-driver, so this was an unknown for me. Everything was right: a relaxed drink in the lounge bar whilst we discussed the menu with the maitre d'; great service - attentive but warm and friendly; superb food; a very good wine list; cosy decor. We'll be back - possibly for all our family events in 2008!

The menu at Gilby's restaurant offers a variety of meals to suit all palates. The food was cooked to requirement and presentation was excellent. Staff were attentive and the meal was unrushed - We dined for over 3 hours! Although a little expensive for lunch time, it is a venue that proved very popular and definitely worth visiting again.Visitors
