About Bistrot d'a Cote Flaubert

This was the first of superstarry-chef Michel Rostang's bistros, and as it was set in an old epicerie, or spice shop, next to a temple of gastronomy, it was christened the 'bistro next door'. This is the
ideal of what a bistro should be, with classic bistro decor, wicker chairs for outside dining, wooden ones for indoors, paprika-coloured walls and white table linens. The menu is sort of turbo-charged bistro cooking with Rostang's trademark intensity of flavours. Try starter of
marinated mackeral with mushrooms, carrots and mesclun, main course of Pyrenees lamb with crumble crust and parmesan shortbread biscuit, and pudding of chocolate cup, a classic of Rostang's own.

Excellent venue. Small and intimate. Exciting menu and helpful staff. Wine menu a little on the steep side. Be aware you can sit very close to the next table. Have a drink and get over it!

Bistro d'a Cote Flaubert - lovely intimate bistro in Paris which was recommended by a colleague. Not the cheapest place, but good value - I paid around 160 euros for two 3-course dinners with wine and champagne apperitif. It's run by Michel Rostang who's one of the top Paris chefs at the moment - the place next to the bistro is his flagship place which costs something like 235 euros for the meal alone, so you can be assured that what you eat is pretty good!

Very nice room and charming service, but the food was very bland. A house special of chicken cooked two ways and served in two courses was basically dull chicken and mash, twice. Poor vegetarian options. Extremely overpriced - including a fairly extortionate wine list. A shame, when there are so many good cheap wines in France. I wouldn't go back.
