About Agaric Restaurant with Rooms

Agaric Restaurant is almost entirely to blame for Ashburton’s recent transformation from quiet Devon town to foodie mecca. With local food champion Nick Coiley at the helm this unassuming, quirky little place combines B&B, restaurant and cookery school with simply stunning results. Yes, the décor is lovely but we can’t believe that you’ll be checking out wallpaper or judging tablecloths when the smells emanating from the kitchen hit you. With pretension and over-styling thrown out of the window Coiley prepares mouthwatering menus using incredible local produce, from wild mushrooms to live crabs, and he does it all from scratch every single day. The results are enough to have critics and fellow chefs calling this place food heaven and we’d be fools to disagree.

Opening hours:
Wed - Fri: 10pm - 2pm & 7pm - 9pm Sat: 7pm - 9pm

Celebrity Chef Jean Christophe Novelli has called Nick Coiley ‘the most underrated Chef in all UK’.

Agaric (Restaurant with rooms) in Ashburton, is a find. There aren't too many good restaurants in South Devon. Although Agaric is a bit pricey to be described as a 'neighbourhood restaurant', the cooking is assured, the ingredients spankingly fresh, and the service excellent. Unfortunately Agaric closes for three weeks in August, which is a bit of a downer for holiday-makers, but presumably reflects the success of the place. If you can't afford dinner, you can go for coffee in the morning.

The Agaric in Ashburton, Devon has helped change this small town into a real centre for good food and great food suppliers. Hhave eaten here before and the quality, taste and presentation is generally first class. This time the Thai mussels and pork, venison and chicken terrine were great starters. Stuffed chicken thigh as main course was also first class however the Turbot was more bones than fish which disappointed. Desserts always very good here. Will go again and recommend others to try.
