Went on a Friday luchtime - restaurant was deserted. We now know why... Starters were good. Mains took an hour and a quarter to arrive - no apologies for this. Steaks were overdone - meant to be medium rare but were medium well. Fish was overcooked. Half hearted apology for the the slow service and steaks. Waitress was more interested in making sure the 10% added service charge was not removed from the bill, which we didn't do, but should have. The price of the meals were expensive. I would avoid this restaurant.

The pub itself must be one of the most beautiful in London and has the added benefit of doing Aspall cider on draft. Unfortunately thats where the good stuff ends. 3 of us had a ploughmans recently and it was by far the worst quality I have ever had the misfortune to be served, the bread was stale, cheese rancid, tomatoes and celery tasteless and the portions (thankfully!) miniscule. When we complained we were told the manager would pop over- nothing happened- when we pressed on this the waitress was rude and said it was meant to be like that! I suppose the arrogance and ignorance must come from the top down. Big shame as we would never visit again and hope the rumour that it is on the market is true and that it passes into ownership of people who care about their customers and produce decent food.

The food seemed good, but unfortunately I did not ge the opportunity to enjoy my main course. I can't understand why a Kosher place would allow smoking especially with very young children in the room. Not only did it infringe on those poor children's rights, but my rights to enjoy, what I thought was going to be a Kosher meal without the smoking. I was not asked if I wanted smoking or non-smoking and therefore assumed the place was non-smoking because there were no ashtrays on the tables and happened to miss the sign that states smoking allowed, conveniently place out of view. Anyway, had disagreement with management about that and instead of accomodating they try to force me to pay for a meal that I did not even have because I refused to eat when the guy next to me is puffing away. Then the server pushed my friend twice and acted like he owned the place when in fact what really reminded me of was a slave. Please take my advice there are other much nicer and less expensive places to dine in while in Madrid. Avoid this one at all costs.
