I was generally happy with the Second Floor Brasserie at Harvey Nichols, Manchester but there is one comment worth making I think that took the shine off it for me. We were booked at 8:00 on Friday night. Having approached it as a night out and dressed accordingly it was disappointing that we were sharing the restaurant with people who struggled in with their bags of shopping straight from the street. For me this changed the ambience in a negative way.

I really enjoyed my meal at the 2nd Floor Brasserie -the soup was gorgeous, the tomato tart tasted fantastic & the dessert was sweet! However my fellow diners were not so enamoured. They did enjoy their starters & dessert however the chicken dish had to be sent back (twice) -it was too pink. The staff were nice about it but it did mean that we all ate at different stages! The sea breem was also delicious. I'd go back but just wouldn't order the chicken! Did I say that the tomato tart was fab?

Excellent food, and very attentive service. Ambience was pleasantly quiet, although it was a mid-week evening.

All starters good. All Puddings good. Duck main meal good. Veggie option poor. Cold and tasteless. Service and restaurant very good.

Staff were very friendly, food was very well presented, the unlimited wine was about 3 glasses each with our meal, not as unlimited as we imagined but it saved us £24.00! Atmosphere was very relaxed.

very good value for money, but i felt the tuna teriyaki to start with was a little tough and bland. They are very generous with the unlimited wine though! Lovely venue.

The Second Floor Brasserie was a great place for a group dinner. The food came quickly, was well prepared, and wasn't too expensive. The 21 offer that they have was well worth it!

The Second Floor Brasserie was not really the place for a relaxing meal as dance music plays in the background and there is a large bar on one side with people who've just come for a drink. The food was ok, but not fantastic. You have to order your 3 courses before you can order a glass of the house wine so this all felt a bit forced. Also there are only 3 choices for each course. However they are very generous with the wine which is topped up as soon as your glass is empty.

We had an early dinner at the Second Floor Brasserie at Harvey Nichols. The 3 courses dinner special was excellent value. The carrot soup was exceptional, I ordered the duck for my main couse and found it a bit dried out and not too exciting, although my husband's salmon looked quite good. Sticky toffee dessert was good. The unlimited white wine was better than the red.
