The vegetable soup to start which was really good, but £12 for the salmon starter was a bit steep but then it is london. We both had the entrecote steak which was excellent and the fries were perfect.

Rowleys is a fusion of sophistication and simplicity. An excellent dining experience all round.

This was a nostalgic return to Rowleys with three friends from Nottingham. Having raved about the steak, it absolutely lived up to expectations, and the service was friendly and very attentive - we were going to the theatre after our meal, and they made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal in the lovely ambience of the restaurant. We are looking forward to a return visit, and will not leave it so long this time!

I went to Rowleys based on a recommendation of their entrecote steak and fries. Food-wise we weren't disappointed - the steak was of execllent quality & perfectly cooked. However, the restaurant really let itself down on service and ambience. The staff appeared completely disinterested and remained unsmiling throughout. The ambience would've been nice had it not been for the amount of tables crammed into a small space, meaning our table for 2 was about 3 inches away from the neighbouring table.

Rowleys is an institution, not cheap, but worth it occasionally. When I first went one of my friends told me, just eat the steak, it's what they do best. He was right then and still is now. Great steak, the best.

This is my third visit and unfortunately it will probably be my last. The staff were friendly but only could speak limited English so and could not get a clear answer when I asked whether the pastry was puff or short crust on the goats cheese tart. The food was pleasant but it was definitely not worth £120 for 2 courses and 2 glasses of house wine!!

Rowley's is one of my favourites simply because you know what you are going to get and it always delivers. Their signature dish of fillet steak in their secret butter with unlimited chips is brilliant when you are under pressure of time and just fancy something simple. Puddings are also fantastic and of the nursery variety. Sticky toffee, rice pudding and crumbles. Nice Berry Brothers Ordinary claret by the carafe too. Very central and excellent for pre/post theatre. KH

I took my mum to Rowleys for her birthday lunch to reminisce the times she used to go there in the 1980's. Unfortunately the food and service was nothing like what it used to be in the 80s. We ordered steak and chips - the steak was tough and the chips were overcooked. The service was very slow because they were under staffed and was not value for money. I would not recommend Rowleys to anyone! How sad that it has changed so much for the worse!

Rowley St james' was recommended by a friend. Food and wine was excellent, although the waitress was a bit slow. Overall a great lunch, though service could be improved

Sadly the waiter and food let the venue down today. The chateaubriand was cold, the accompanying sauce was forgotten, waiter surly and cost did not reflect the quality of food or service experienced. I doubt I will return.
