The Rose and Crown in Sutton on the Forest near York provided us with an excellent meal. Service was swift but not rushed and the food itself was excellent - lots of nice fish dishes. The warm homemade bread rolls were excellent as were the little pistachio chocs that came with the coffee. Will make a point of going again soon

We ordered steaks one medium rare and one rare they got mixed up we ended up with the wrong steaks although the rare one was changed it took the shine off the meal the waiter was a bit dizzy

We visited the Rose and Crown in Sutton on the Forest near York on Friday 3rd July 2007. The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The food was superb, the venison was the best we have had. An absolute feast on a plate. Absolutely first class surroundings, very relaxing. Will certainly go again.

Second visit, not as good as first. Sea bass finished (and this was 7 30pm). Lobster consisted mainly of crayfish and potatoes. Lemon Sole OK. Starters were very good.

First visit to Rose and Crown and liked what we saw.Starters maybe not as tempting as the mains of which I could have tried any of them. Crab salad a little boring but the lamb main more than made up for it - tender and pink with an unusual twist of mint and pea rissotto, delicious.The wine by the glass was expensive at £5.95 for 250ml but nonetheless enjoyable. The atmosphere was slightly lacking as there were only 4 tables occupied but we liked the setting and will definitely be returning

Our dinner at the rose and crown was unfortunately let down by a very limited dessert menu and a table that felt like we were sitting in a corridor.Otherwise the food was good.

The Rose & Crown restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The service was OK. The presentation of the food served was good but the dishes were over priced for the quality (flavour & taste) of the food. One of our guests potato wedges over fried and not edible. Choices for dessert are very limited.

The Rose and Crown was absolutely sensational! The flavour, texture and taste of the food was first class, they obviously have a very talented team in the kitchen! We enjoyed some wonderful wines with the meal and the service was second to none. We think this is by far the best restaurant in York if not Yorkshire! Couldn't rate this place high enough, so much so were going back with friends next week. Great to support somewhere with such young owners and staff.(found 9 reviews)
