Merchants' restaurant was an excellent lunch-time treat. Their cheaper lunch menu means that you can sample some divine food at excellent prices. It's quiet at this time of day, but that means that the service is almost just for you!

Spot on! Excellent feeling from start to end. We had a dining experience at Merchants restaurant, great attention to detail, amuses- bouche and pre-dessert were fabulous, food was well presented and loads of choices. 3 different bread rolls-oh yes, 1 criticism if I have to was that the white roll was a little overbaked, but big deal everything else was fab!! It's the sort of place to go to for a celebration. French influence, young attentive staff and the maitre d' could teach a lot of others!

An evening at the merchant’s restaurant proved to be an expensive experience. The food although presented nicely was served in only child sized portions. One member of the party had langoustines with pea puree and found this tasteless and bland with only 5 very small langoustines. The venison served was fabulous but only 2 very small pieces for £24.50 !!! The beef fillet likewise!! For 3 people the bill came to £185 for 3 courses after which one would expect to be full and not have to eat supper an hour later. The service however was second to none.

Very enjoyable meal. Staff were very friendly. Would definately re visit. Only negative comment, when asking for english mustard it was delivered in a horribleyellow sachet... very two star

toilets were outside the restaurant as part of the hotel, so a bit unconvenient, but apart from this the food was excellent, well presented and sophisticated. Excellent choice and highly recommended

What a fabulous dining experience, I have eaten at many top restaurant around the world and this rates very high in my list if not the favourite. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like royalty, they really know how to make you feel special. The cocktails are very good, I reccommend the "wish upon a star". The food was beautiful, the medallions of beef melted in the mouth and the chocolate pudding was every womans dream!. I shall definately be returning.
