We had the locally sourced 2 course lunch for £14.95. Our friendly waitress (also locally sourced) was very knowlegeable about local farm producers and gave good advice about the limited choices available. The food whilst rather dull-chesse on toast starter- mutton chops or fish pie main course- was good and fresh. The wine list was extensive and very expensive but the choice of a £16 Merlot from Chile (always a safe bet) appeased a rather supercilious sommelier. Comfortable but not inspiring

Mal Maison Brasserie, Manchester - Straight 10's once again! Small 21st birthday celebration, private room, lovely flower table decorations, excellent service from friendly & knowledgeable staff. An evening to remember. Thanks!

The food was mediocre. My friend ordered salmon cake and it was tastless. I order a steak and the fries were awfull. We were told the special 2 course and three course meal does not apply on Sunday. Further more we were charged for 5 drink but we only had 4. We were definitely not be going again. The furniture was dull and full of dust

Good ambience and an interesting range of dishes (though set menu fairly limited). Excellant value for money for the quality of food and cooking. Probably more suited to couples/small groups than a large rowdy party. Only small criticism would be that some of the tables are too close together. Highly recommended regardless.

Malmaison Brasserie, Manchester - utterly mediocre - we took a friend here today for her 30th birthday and wished we hadn't. We weren't greeted for ages, despite there only being 3 tables occupied. Wine arrived before pre-lunch drinks. The menu was truly mediocre - caesar salad and salmon amongst the starters; steak+chips, fishcakes and full english breakfast for main courses. Service was slow and staff uninterested in guests' wellbeing. Will not return.

We had dinner at Malmaison Brasserie on Saturday night and took advantage of the special offer on the set menu of locally sourced produce, which seemed like good value. The starter of carrot and coriander soup was disappointing: oily, over salted and lacked coriander. The waiter didn't seem concerned that I barely had a quarter of mine. My main (cornfed chicken with cabbage and bacon) was too salty and oily, while my partner's sausages and risotto was also oily and just not nice. 5/10
