We attended Mai Thai in Edinburgh between Christmas and New Year so it was relatively quiet. The service was excellent, they were attentive and explained the menu to us very well. The food was great and well presented. Although they had no sticky rice which disappointed two members of our group. The toilets were superficially clean. However, if you looked a bit harder they were a bit dirty round the edges.

This is the third time we have been to Mai Thai and unfortunately it does not compare to the 1st time we were there. It was a tuesday night so it was not busy, we were seated and ordered our food fine. The food is great but once we were finished we had to wait ages to get the bill as the staff were nowhere to be seen. I do recommend it if you like thai food but there seems to be no consistency in service.

Despite the excellent food, the service was very poor. Long waiting times for the starter and the bill there was an occasion where our order of prawn crackers was forgotten and required a reminder. Still, this could have been a one off and the quality of the food would make me return although another poor showing on the service front would make me thing again.

We went to MaiThai on a Saturday night when the Edinburgh Festival was on and although it was busy it was not crowded. The food was fantastic, we tried the mixed starters and everyone of them was lovely. The Beef Rendang curry was gorgeous for the main too. Overall a briliant thai restaurant and if I went to Edinburgh again I would definitely come back.

We visited Mai Thai mid-week, so it wasn't very busy which meant that you could hear the noise from the adjoining bar. However, the decor was nice, in particular the carvings, the staff were attentive and smiley and most importantly of all, the food was very good. Be warned though, three chillies means it IS HOT!!!

Mai Thai is attached to a bar. We booked for a Tuesday night after reading the reviews and were very surprised and somewhat annoyed to find that the bar volume (it is part of the same place, not a seperate venue) for the football match was turned up and the noise was very annoying. You don't expect to go for a nice meal and have to talk very loudly over football supporters and the commentators. I would reccomend the place, but only if you make sure it is a non football night. Do not go otherwise

A taste of Thaland in Edinburgh not to be missed and a welcome relief from footslogging it up and down the Royal during Festival time. My son, recently returned from Thailand was impressed with the dishes served at Mai Tai - we would particularly recommend soup for starter... and banana fritter in coconut batter to round off the evening!

The Mai Thai is in a recently developed area of Edinbugh close to major tourist attractions. The ambience suffers from the lack of soft furnishings and a pool table in the adjacent bar. The decor is otherwise pleasant. The staff and service are good. The food is excellent and possibly the best Thai food we have had. The set menus are well designed and good value.
