I had visited L'Hochepot previously and was pleased to find it still in the same ownership, 8 years now. Despite being less than half full, some of the menu items were unavailable, but the food was very good. In particular, they serve the best Carbonnade Flammande I have ever tasted. This, and the large range of French beers, most sold in 75cl bottles, were my main reasons for visiting. But the relaxed atmosphere and uncrowded surroundings also make it a favourite.

Good wholesome local food, served with care and attention. The wines included in the tariff were basic but palatable. Above all the general service and assistance (with such a large party) were excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those wishing to sample local traditional dishes.

Service was very good & we never felt rushed. Three starters were unavailable which greatly reduced choices so we ordered a selection plate of terrine, cheese and bread which was very good. Generally the main courses were very good (though why we couldn;t have chips was a mystery). However one of our party ordered sirloin steak med rare which arrived well done and like shoe leather. They seemed surprised when we returned it but offered a replacement or alternative. Desserts were delicious.

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner here. We wanted to sample the local cuisine and we were not disappointed with our meals. We booked for 8pm which may be early for Lille, as we were the only people in the place until 8:30, when two groups arrived. Don't let this put you off though, the food was really good. We had the Home Terrine with raw veg in vinegarette and also the herrings as a starter. We followed this with the carbonnade, which was fantastic!

More people need to experience the food at Le Hochepot because it is very good. Its location doesn''t help but that should not put you off eating there.

Le Hochepot in Lille did not resemble the description on the top table sitel. The key points listed were 'kid friendly and ok for vegetarians'.Wrong on both. Several starters and a couple of mains were off, the kids menu included pasta and fries.but only one portion of each remained. For our family it was evening and family event ruined.(found 8 reviews)
