we arrived 30mins early as our child was starving. This was no problem and we were swiftly shown to our table. This is off the main tourist drag so we were surronded by parisians having afriday lunch out. The huge number of chandeliers added to the amibience. All in all a lovely first meal on our holidya

La Taverne: Great brasserie fayre - fabulously gauche decor & pianist trumped only by a wonderfully dismissive waiter who changed my ENTIRE order by up-selling me on everything I first ordered. Food was excellent - the seafood demi-platter was ENORMOUS (far too big for 1) and very fresh. The "grey" tiny shrimp with shells on were a highlight and this comes from an avid oyster fan. Meat was well aged and recommended wines matched perfectly. Creme brulee and chocolate puds hit the spot perfectly.

In busy, buzzing area but despite its size, the interior of La Taverne was calm and relaxing. Background piano music was not intrusive. Thought at first we'd have trouble getting served but this did not turn out to be the case. Food was excellent and we enjoyed an unhurried meal in beautiful surroundings.

A wonderful, slightly mad, high-class French dining room. We booked lunch for my mother-in-law's 80th and she, and we loved it. The best snails she's ever tasted, great fish and meat. Excellent wine list. Fantastic decor, English speaking, centrally located, just round the corner from Opera. Child-friendly, bit pricey perhaps, but worth it for the experience.

The interior and atmoshere at La Taverne is definitely it's high point; an abundance of chandeliers added the desired element of glitz and a live piano player the element of sophistication. The menu is classic, if uninspired: quiche lorraine, onion soup and steaks were average at best but the seafood platters are what really impress, and at reasonable prices too. It did feel a little touristy, but the ambience and friendly service made up for it’s shortcomings.

We went to La Taverne on Saturday night and were expecting reasonable food in reasonable surroundings; our expectations were far exceeded. The food was excellent (very reasonable for Paris - about £50 per head for a 4 course meal with wine) and the restaurant just sparkles. We would recommend this restaurant to couples or slightly larger groups as there are nooks and crannies throughout the restaurant. If you like Rum Babas, this is the best I have ever had!!!

We had a most enjoyable evening at La Taverne, the seafood platters are excellent and the staff are very attentive. I will most certainly be back.

La Taverne was as expected ambience wise - a traditional french restaurant, where the staff are a bit rude to us english (note to self - dont ask for an english translation of the menu) but the food was nice (not amazing, but good) drinks were reasonable compared to some places in paris and the piano player was great fun. would recommend
