Upstairs dining - lighting & ambience is lovely. Table planning not good as waitress had to ask diners to move to get to us! The order was completely wrong when it arrived after a long wait. Had complimentary glass of wine though I had to suggest it. My steak was tough, the tiny amount of 'jus' was lukewarm and the garlic mash was, well.. 'Smash'. Didn't bother with dessert. Overall not impressed. Would I go back? Er.. probably not. Where? Gascoyne Place, Bath.

I loved this place! A really, really friendly atmosphere, great food and good value for money, right in the middle of Bath. It was good to see a chef making good use of local produce in an imaginative way. We stayed long after our meal was over as the atmosphere was so welcoming. I also enjoyed the historical aspects of the building itself, and when we return we would definitely try eating in the first floor dining room, which looks gorgeous. As it was, we had a lovely time in the snug.

The actual main dishes were very nice, but the accompanying sides were poor. Even though we pre-ordered, not enough seats were laid and they got the order wrong; however they were very apologetic. Has the potential to get higher scores in the future.

Gascoyne Place resturant was a lovely dining experience. The ambience, location near the theatre, aaaaand the friendliness and willingness of staff complimented well the delicious food served. Well done!!

This is the first booking that I have made through Toptable. I only made the booking the night before and they called me early the next day to explain that I could not be seated in the Main restaurant and giving me the option of the Balcony or cancellation. I acceoted the Balcony which was a wise decision. Gascoyne Place is rather noisy and crowded but being on the Balcony does help in this regard. The food is gourmet Pub Grub and is excellent and good value. I would definitely recommend it.

The food was nice pub food, and the restaurant is quite sweet with a mixture of rusticity and light. The service was, however, rather poor: they took a very long time with our food and then they brought our starters and mains at the same time, all the while forgetting one person's main - total shambles! But if they can sort that out then it's a nice place for a leisurely lunch
