The food at the Caversham is a little disappointing for its price band. It's nicely presented but the only thing we could recommend is the steak, which is excellent. The mushroom/brie tart starter was cold (was it supposed to be?) and the soup was bland, as was the vegetarian main, which I wasn't altogether sure of - the griddled parts had a "meaty/fishy" taste which I didn't like. Everything was ok, but nothing was outstanding although the steak was worth paying extra for.

This restaurant always manages to exceed it's own expectations every time we visit. The staff are very polite and are always happy to help and assist with menu choices. The food seems to be cooked with much care and attention. The layout seemed to be well thought out as it allows diners to have a peaceful meal without losing any of the restaurants ambience.

I wasn't particularly impressed with Caversham restaurant. Unless you enjoy dining in an airport lounge, this place isn't for you - it's soulless, empty and too bright for a start. The food was pretty mediocre too and we sent the starters back because they tasted like they came out of a packet. The service was fairly good and the 2for1 deal made it worth it but I would have resented paying full price for this meal.

The Caversham restaurant is a great place for a romantic meal. Peaceful, excellent unobstrusive but attentive service, delicious food and a good wine list. HIghly recommended.

Most of us in our party had steaks which were too well done and this was probably because there was to be fair only one chef cooking under pressure. Our dining experience this time wasn't as good as the first time maybe because we were a smaller more manageable group the first time round. However, service was good. It was a little quiet to start with but the restaurant soon warmed up. Ambience would have been better if there was some air conditioning and a little more light.

I went to Caversham Restaurant in Reading with 3 others to try it out and was pleasantly surprised after reading the last few reviews. We had filet, sirloin steaks and a seafood pasta. All were of good quality. Service is Ok-ish, the waitress needs more experience. Point knocked off for dessert (samosa) not being a bit too cold. Bit quiet on a weekday which was when we went.
Eg. italian, Ritz, Benitos, meatballs...
