This was a New Year's eve with an upmarket set menu & glass of champagne on arrival. There was no-one to greet you, 30 mins before getting the welcome fizz ( disgusting!). Most of the options were off and staff so short & defeated with no-one apparently in charge that they kept their heads down at all times, running for cover. We even saw the chef ( in dirty apron) having to serve tables. People complained about double booking, whilst others could not get pay & leave !

For new years eve the set menu was good value. Resturant was quite busy, and the staff were having difficulty keeping up. Food was tasty and portions were generous.

We booked this restaurant for New Years Eve at 10pm after the Opera. When we arrived there were lots of people waiting outside and we were told that there were no tables and that they could not honour our booking or anybody elses. Complete chaos and obvioucly NYE too late to go anywhere else...

We went there for New Year eve, the place was packed and our table was in the middle of the walkway, the service was very slow but the food was good.

As a regular diner at Cafe Mode - with Reading group friends - I booked my family in for a pre-theatre meal and was very pleased that I had done so. Everything about the meal from the superb service through the unmissable burgers to an amazing chocolate fondue, enjoyed by wife and elder daughter, sent us on our way to the Savoy with big smiles on our faces. If you want good, honest food in a relaxing environment which does not hurt the bank balance - this is the place. Highly recommended.

Cafe Mode, while offering great value for money, were not prepared for New Years Eve diners at all - they were understaffed, and many diners, ourselves included had to wait far too long for service. The set meal did offer great value for money, and the food was good enough, but this was overshadowed by a cramped and hectic environment.

A charming little cafe/restaurant with a varied menu (eg pizzas, pastas, burgers, calamari) and good quality food for the price. Would like to go back and try different things on the menu. Great for a lunch with friends or a quick bite before theatre or just a casual meal.

I have experienced a good service through toptable so far, it is disapointing however that we did not get seated on new years eve as this greatly effected an otherwise good night out.

Cafe Mode was very convenient before a trip to the theatre but I wouldn't recommend it for a relaxing or particularly special evening meal. The service wasn't very personable - an "enjoy your meal" would have been nice, but it was quick enough at least. The food on the whole was pleasant, although those who chose the vegetable canneloni were very disappointed. It was a bit crowded in some parts of the restaurant but it was quite a nice setting.
